Portal Express 6.1.5 - Win32

Here's a quick walk through for the installation of Portal Express 6.1.5 on Windows Server 2003 (x86)

Required Files

To install Portal Express 6.1.5 on Win32 you will need to have the following files from IBM:

  • CZ8G8ML
  • CZ8H2ML
  • C1HA1ML
  • CZ8I8ML
  • CZ819ML
  • CZEA3ML
  • CZ9BPML (Optional - Quick Start Guide)

Installation

Firstly extract each of the files to it's own folder within your working directory. Don't use Windows built in extraction tools, they're a piece of crap. Try 7-zip if you don't have an alternative already installed. Go into the CZ8G8ML folder and click on setup.exe If the installer runs, you should be asked to chose your language.

Once you've done that, click OK

Click on Launch the installation wizard for Windows

Click Next

Select I accept both the IBM and the non-IBM terms. Then Click Next

Select an installation directory (keep it short and avoid spaces if at all possible) and Click Next

Enter your fully qualified host name and Click Next. If you don't know what it is and couldn't be bothered figuring it out, you may get the following error.

If that's the case, you can edit your hosts file but you may run into problems later on, so where possible try to get it right the first time. Set the Administrator User ID and Password and Click Next

Click Next

Wait while it does it's thing.

Click Finish

You should now be able to access your portal at http://localhost:10040/wps/portal If not, you may need to start it up. Go to your installation directory then AppServer\profiles\wp_profile\bin and run 'startServer.bat WebSphere_Portal' It's normally best to do it from the command line so you can see any errors that come up.
