At Glintech we've gone through multiple iterations of our website and most changes involve not only a template update but us implementing a whole new content management system. Each time this happens it causes the same issues which are:

  • Additional training for our content producers.
  • Content migration.
  • New limitations of the system.
  • All our old plugins are incompatible.
  • New hosting requirements.
  • The list goes on...

In 2014 we sat down to go through the same experience yet again, but this time someone made an observation that had previously gone unnoticed, why do we change our web publishing platform regularly but all our other systems seem to stand the est of time and continue on.

This got us all thinking the same, why do we change them over and the only reason we could think of was the systems become outdated due to complete revamps of the system, so are we right in changing? After much debate we concluded that we should have a publishing platform that was simple and stable enough to continue on for years to come but expandable enough that we can upgrade the areas we want to improve in an incremental way. This was the start of the Webfluence project.

Over the past 2 years we've been busy beavering away on our pet project starting with the simple yet stable content publishing system, then moving on to templates macro and eventually producing a product that we all know and love internally. Now the time as come to show off our little baby to the world and invite you to try out Webfluence for yourself.

Built on the shoulders of giants

Webfluence is built on the Atlassian product Confluence, this was done because this is generally a stable system ingrained into a business culture allowing for an easy adoption process, as all your staff already know the basics.

Modular and Expandable

We've expanded the macros section to include banners and contact forms that seamlessly integrate into JIRA allowing workflows to be attached to the requests, forwarding them directly to the relevant team.

We have also implemented some basic themes, these themes are built on the confluence theming engine so we can swap and change themes without having to migrate all our content to the new system.

Finally we have incorporated the publishing pipeline into AWS and Google Cloud hosting environments making it easy to push multiple websites to various environments while maintaining them from a single instance.

This has only became available to the general public due to our overall success with its implementation and uptake from our dedicated teams, each having their own area they can own, build and publish to the live site independently of each other, handing the power to generate relevant content to the people with the hands on knowledge rather than Chinese whisper style of content producing that is conjunctive with most businesses.
