IBM has the right to audit customers using IBM software per the Passport Advantage agreement. Customers will be expected to purchase any unlicensed IBM software in use within their environment and also purchase any support in arrears for up to 24 months.
If a company does not deploy ILMT, during an audit IBM will consider them a full capacity customer, which means they will count the whole server for determining PVU licenses. Besides full capacity, licensing costs can grow if the company has large pieces of hardware and they diversify everything.
Suppose the company has one partition on each server in case one goes down. This creates a very large hardware footprint, and since IBM would count each server as full capacity, that could be a huge licensing risk if there aren’t enough licenses to cover them all.
